Before using the Sunbed

  • Do not consume alcohol
  • Make sure you understand the instructions on the length of each tanning session for your skin type - never exceed the limit.
  • Remove all cosmetics
  • Remove all jewellery
  • Do not use outdoor sun lotions or creams
  • Remove contact lenses

While using the Sunbed

  • Always use protective goggles
  • Don't allow anyone else in the room with you
  • If you notice any unusual skin reactions during your tanning session stop the exposure at once and seek advice

Aftercare

  • Do not sunbathe outside either before your sunbed session or after
  • You may moisturise your skin
  • Allow at least 24hrs between tanning sessions
  • If at any time you notice changes in the skin such as lumps, sores or unusual moles consult your doctor

When Not to use a Sunbed

  • If you are under 16yrs of age
  • You are on medication that may cause sensitivity to UV rays
  • You have a medical condition worsened by sunlight
  • Pregnancy - Although there is no medical evidence that UV light can harm a foetus, consult your doctor before using a sunbed
  • You have fair or sensitive skin that burns easily
  • You have a large number of moles or freckles
  • You or anyone in your family has or has had skin cancer
  • You have a history of sunburn especially in childhood

The following may cause a skin reaction:

  • Antibiotics
  • Analgesics
  • Medication for blood pressure
  • Diuretics
  • Anti-malarials
  • Some anti-depressants
  • Psoralens
  • Eosin
